π My Journey and Passion for Accessible Education π
I'm excited to share why I decided to take part in this journey to create VertexYou, a revolutionary online educational service.
Sadly, I am a statistic. The most concise way to explain it is with excerpts from the article βHow The $1.6 Trillion Student Loan Debt Disproportionately Weighs On Black Women" on Forbes.com: "Black women own a disproportionate amount of the $1.6 trillion federal student debt total, with higher debt averages than any other demographic. These melanated and highly educated Black women have 43% more undergraduate debt than their white women counterparts. β¦Black women have nearly 99% more graduate school debt than their white woman counterparts 12 months after graduation, according to a study by The Education Trust.β
Let me tell you, financially speaking itβs not fun to be a part of this group. While I acknowledge that I had a good idea of my educational costs, I did not know just how difficult it would be to move forward financially with such a heavy burden while combating wage issues: βcollege-educated Black women earn 10% less than college-educated white women and 34% less than college-educated white men on average", according to the same article mentioned above. So, when I had the chance to build an organization that could help other people avoid becoming a statistic with such a devastating impact in nearly all areas of life, I jumped at the opportunity to be part of the solution. My personal experience navigating this financial strain has fueled my determination to make a change.
During my career in the mortgage industry, I also witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of student loan debt. Countless individuals, despite their hard work and education, were unable to secure mortgage loans because of their overwhelming student loan burdens. This reality is deeply troubling and left me powerless with no way to provide a solution.
Education should be a pathway to success, not a heavy financial burden. This belief is at the core of VertexYou. Our mission is to provide affordable, high-quality education that empowers individuals to achieve their goals without crippling debt.
In the long run, being a statistic has led me to partnering with like-minded visionaries, creating a platform that democratizes education, making it accessible to all. We believe in the transformative power of education and are committed to helping our students unlock their full potential.
